Last week HRSA announced the award of $200 Million for Access Increases in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (AIMS) supplemental funding. These funds are intended to increase access, treatment, awareness, and prevention services for mental health and substance abuse, specifically opioid abuse. All of our clients applied for the funds and all received an increased amount than originally requested. In total, The Write Choice Network clients received more than $1.2 Million in AIMS funds from HRSA.
The press release discussed opioid abuse and how every part of our country is plagued by its effects. It mentioned that combating substance abuse is a priority of the Trump Administration and these funds are proof. Below is a link to a press conference where President Trump and Governor Christie discuss substance abuse, and though we will never agree completely about every political issue, this is one we would all like to see eliminated. This press conference includes dialogue between the president and family members who have lost loved ones to overdoses and people who have struggled with substance abuse.
The other purpose of these funds is to increase access to mental health services. In the HRSA press release it stresses the fact that most patients seek and receive mental health services in primary care health centers. It only makes sense to support FQHCs in providing both mental health and substance abuse services.
All of our clients serve populations at the top of lists for highest substance abuse rates, highest overdose rates, and highest suicide rates. This topic falls very close to our hearts at The Write Choice Network and we wanted to say thank you to those who provide these services on a daily basis. We know that it is close to your hearts as well; we are always so proud to work with you and we love to brag about all of your hard work!
